چکیده
Abstract This research studies the influence of local weld notch parameters on fatigue crack initiation sites in laser-hybrid butt welds, utilizing high-resolution 3D scans and tests to failure. The suitability different geometric for strength characterization is investigated, current challenges associated with their measurements are highlighted. shapes were found fluctuate significantly, resulting considerable variation over short intervals. Undercut depth was determine critical location initiation. There several instances where initiated from notches large radii despite presence sharper notches, contrary what expected basis previous investigations. results present study indicate that undercut a suitable indicator high-quality laser-MAG hybrid overcoming practical limitations radius measurement.

Improving Fatigue Strength of Welded Joints by Ultrasonic Impact Treatment
Enhancement in fatigue performance of welded joints by Ultrasonic Impact Treatment (UIT) was evaluated with large-scale rolled beam and built-up specimens having yield strength of 345 to 760 MPa. Eighteen rolled-beam specimens having welded details at cover plates and transverse stiffeners and eight built-up specimens having only transverse stiffener details were fatigue tested after treating t...

Simplified fatigue and fracture mechanics based assessment methods are widely used by the industry to determine the structural integrity significance of postulated cracks, manufacturing flaws, service-induced cracking or suspected degradation of engineering components under normal and abnormal service loads. In many cases, welded joints are the regions most likely to contain original fabricatio...
متن کاملFatigue Behaviour Study of Laser Hybrid Welded Eccentric Fillet Joints – Part I
Welded joints are a major component that is often responsible for causing a structure failure or for being the point at which fatigue cracking initiates and propagates. Despite tremendous research efforts, the understanding of fatigue behaviour is still limited, particularly for new techniques like laser hybrid welding. Beside a comprehensive state-of-the-art study, the paper presents a fatigue...
متن کاملFatigue Life of Repaired Welded Tubular Joints
In this study, the effect of repair on fatigue life of tubular joints is investigated. Six cracked specimens precedently subjected to fatigue loading undergone to weld repair. Two of those specimens were shot peened before primary fatigue loading. It is shown that repair gives rise to about 150% increase in fatigue life for original specimens while the increase of fatigue life for shot-peened ...
